Most agencies test variations.
We test meaning.

REBEL turns established theory (Greimas, Lakoff, Sperber & Wilson, Halliday) into a paid media testing matrix. Hypotheses are proven in ads, then compounded in SEO and on-page copy.

Creative testing is still
guesswork with a budget.

Built for teams tired of paying for taste dressed up as strategy.

Performance shops

Swap colours and rewrite the same sentence five ways. Nothing is named, so nothing compounds.

Brand shops

Deliver concepts no one can hold to CAC, ROAS or SERP CTR. Confident, and unaccountable.

Everyone else

When an ad or a title tag fails, the words are rarely the problem. The underlying code is, and most agencies don't use it.

Not a house style

This is not taste.
It is applied science.

Semiotics Engine takes peer-reviewed work in rhetoric, structural semiotics and cognitive linguistics and turns it into testable commercial hypotheses. We don't invent the theories. We operationalise them.

Maps category tropes with the semiotic square
Treats each variant as a named linguistic hypothesis
Reaches confidence in paid channels inside 14 days
Compounds the winning architecture through SEO, content and CRO

Four pillars.
One testing sheet.

The 29 theories stay in the operating system. Buyers see four pillars. Media buyers and copywriters see a one-page hypothesis sheet: theory tested, signifier A versus B, predicted cognitive payoff.

Speech act theory · transitivity · telicity

Agency and action

Who has power in the sentence.

Conceptual metaphor · prototype theory

Mental models

Which physical metaphor the buyer uses to understand the service.

Markedness · myth · deixis · connotation

Cultural anchoring

How the brand cuts through category blindness.

Hermeneutic code · ethos, pathos, logos

Narrative tension

What holds attention long enough to convert.

Theory in. Spend out.
Organic compound.

Three steps. The same on every engagement.

01 / Select the theory

Telicity, conceptual metaphor, markedness, relevance, the semiotic square. Each test names the framework and the predicted cognitive payoff.

02 / Prove it in paid media

Google RSAs and paid social generate volume fast enough to separate signal from taste. Confidence in days, not quarters.

03 / Compound it in SEO and CRO

The winning signifier moves into title tags, H1s, metas and hero copy. The lift outlives the campaign.

Sample hypothesis sheetCopyEvent structure
Signifier A“Secure your 2026 tax strategy”Telic · implies completion
Signifier B“Master your tax strategy”Atelic · implies open process

Theory tested: telicity (linguistic aspect). Not a nicer verb. A different event structure, rolled into every high-volume title tag.

The theory,
at work.

Same product. Different code. Different economics.

Telicity · linguistic aspect

Completion versus process

Telic verbs imply completion, atelic verbs imply an open process. “Secure your 2026 tax strategy” versus “Master your tax strategy.” The winner is not a nicer verb, it is a different event structure, then rolled into every high-volume title tag.

Relevance theory · Sperber & Wilson

Payoff versus effort

Communication lands when cognitive payoff is high and processing effort is low. That is the brief for a 30-character RSA headline and a 60-character title tag. Bloat is not a style problem, it is a relevance failure.

The semiotic square · Greimas

The unowned territory

Map a category claim against its contrary and its contradictory. If everyone bids on “fast implementation”, the unowned territory is often “zero disruption” or “permanent adaptability”. That line becomes the ad and the content hub.

The proof

One word.
+83% CTR.

This is not hypothetical. For Informa's Vitafoods Insights we changed a single word per creative pair, Unlock versus Access, and measured an 83% CTR lift. Same image, same CTA, same audience. Different code.

The diagnostic

30 minutes.
One hypothesis.

One named theory. One category trope. One testable hypothesis, before you spend another pound on copy.

Ask your current agency which framework they used on the last twenty ads. If the answer is gut feel, a competitor swipe file, or “we A/B tested the CTA”, they are repeating the same semantic error at scale.

REBEL have been part of the team at Joma Jewellery & Katie Loxton since 2019, supporting our Paid Media strategies and more recently, SEO. It goes without saying that REBEL are experts in their field, but my favourite thing about working with REBEL, is the genuine and honest relationship that we have with them, as I believe the most successful partnerships are built on great communication and a mutual respect for one another.

I was having trouble with transferring from another agency and they helped me through that tricky process, guided me at each step and made it easy to do exactly what I needed to do. As I am new to paid search, the team made it very easy for me to understand how it all works, which is not something my previous agency did. They are also highly efficient and quick to respond to my emails. I look forward to continuing my partnership with them.

Questions worth
asking upfront.

Does this replace our existing agency or creative team?

+

No. It runs alongside whoever already writes your ads and pages. Most engagements start as an independent read on the copy that's already live.

How fast do we see a result?

+

Paid channels generate enough volume to reach statistical confidence in days, not quarters. From there, the winning structure moves into SEO, content and CRO, where it keeps compounding after the campaign ends.

Do we need to know the theory ourselves?

+

No. The 29 theories stay in the operating system. What your team sees is four commercial pillars and a one-page hypothesis sheet: theory tested, signifier A versus B, predicted payoff.

What actually gets tested?

+

One named linguistic hypothesis per ad set, run in Google RSAs and paid social first, since those channels generate volume fast enough to separate genuine signal from taste.
